Socialter recently spoke to Board of Director member and co-founder of Mahiti, Sunil Abraham, about Mahiti and the Centre of Internet and Society India.
Here is the article that they wrote:
Mahiti is a social enterprise that provides simple and effective open source web technology. Websites, software development. Mahiti offers a range of services to its clients: NGOs, social entreprises, foundation.
In parallel, Mahiti sells the same servicies to private groups, charging a higher price. This allows Mahiti to be economically independent, and even to make a profit which is invested in its activity towards "social organizations".
This is an example of an intelligent combination of “for-profit” and “non-profit”. It shows that the debate is not necessarily for or against the profit in social enterprises but where the money that allows the company to live come from.
